Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

About Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (IATA code CDG), often called Roissy, is the largest airport in France and one of the busiest in Europe. It is located north-east of Paris, around 25 km from the city centre.

CDG is the main hub of Air France and handles most of the capital's long-haul and international traffic. The airport is huge and spread over several terminals, Terminal 1, Terminal 2 (with many sub-halls) and Terminal 3, connected by the free CDGVAL shuttle train. Paris also has Orly (ORY) to the south, so make sure you know which airport and terminal you need.

Getting to the city centre

The main options to reach central Paris are:

RER B — the suburban rail line runs from the airport to central stations such as Gare du Nord and Châtelet.
Buses — the Roissybus and other coach and city bus routes link CDG with Paris.
Taxi — use only official taxis from the marked ranks.
High-speed trains — the airport's TGV station connects to other French cities.

Works and service changes are common, so check the official airport website before you go.

Practical tips

A few simple habits make the airport part of your trip much smoother:

Arrive early, especially in peak travel seasons: queues at check-in, security and passport control can build up quickly.
Double-check the airport code and terminal on your booking — cities with several airports are easy to mix up.
Check passport validity and entry requirements with official sources such as the embassy or consulate.
Terminal 2 alone has several halls (2A to 2G), so note the exact hall, not just the terminal number.
