About Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport (IATA code DXB) is the main airport of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and one of the busiest airports in the world for international passengers. It is located in the Al Garhoud area, close to the city's older districts of Deira and Bur Dubai.

DXB is the home hub of Emirates and also a base for flydubai. It has three passenger terminals: Terminal 3 is used mainly by Emirates, while Terminals 1 and 2 serve other airlines. Dubai has a second airport, Al Maktoum International (DWC), so always confirm the airport and terminal shown on your booking.

Getting to the city centre

Thanks to its central location, DXB is easy to leave:

  • Dubai Metro — the Red Line has stations at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 and runs towards Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina.
  • Taxi — official taxis queue outside arrivals at every terminal.
  • Buses and hotel shuttles — city buses and many hotels provide connections too.

Metro hours differ on some days of the week and during holidays, so check the official airport and transport websites before you travel.

Practical tips

A few simple habits make the airport part of your trip much smoother:

  • Check your airline's recommended check-in time and allow extra time for security and passport control.
  • Look at the terminal shown on your ticket or booking confirmation and confirm it on the airport's departure boards.
  • Baggage allowance depends on your fare, so check what is included with the airline before you fly.
  • Terminals are far apart — moving between Terminals 1/3 and Terminal 2 requires a bus or taxi, so double-check your terminal.
